Week two.
goal setting (10/5 year, 3 year, 1 year)
Creating Mantra’s
Now we are going to get into goal setting! Realize this is going to be one of many drafts so take your time and know that it will take time to get your goals crafted and they will constantly be evolving.
You are going to create 3 lists of goals:
-10 Year or 5 year goals ( if under the age of 30)
-3 Year Goals
-1 Year Goals.
Write down your goals in the following format: I want _____ because ______.
The first blank is your goal and the second blank is why you want the goal. The because statement will be just as important as the goal itself, so get specific and accurate! Get creative, take your time and be unreasonable! Right now you are not going to focus on the “how” of getting the goal or if it even seems possible. Simply just focus on what you really want if your wildest dreams came true.
Examples:
“I want to work 30 hours a week because family time is important.”
“I want to own a bakery because food builds community.”
“I want to back squat 2x bodyweight and run a sub 20 minute 5k because I want to be strong, agile and durable.”
Next, add in a "by" date into the same format: I want _____ by ______ because ______.
If it is a 1 year goal the “by date” blank will have the month and year by which you will accomplish this.
Examples:
“I want to work 30 hours a week by June 30, 2021 because family time is important”
“I want to own a bakery by January 1, 2030 because food builds community”
“I want to back squat 2x body weight and run a sub 20 minute 5k by April 1, 2023 because I am strong, agile and durable”
Now that you have completed the list of goals and put a “by date ” we are going to create mantras.
A mantra is simply an “I am” statement to help support you in taking on the identity of the type of person who achieves these goals.
Ask yourself: Who do I need to become in order to achieve this goal? These serve the important mission of helping to continually remind you of the direction you are pointed, even if the immediate steps aren't clear. Think this is a north star of decision making.
Examples:
“I am a badass husband and father.”
“I cultivate community.”
